NOTARY SUPPORT

What are Notaries?
Notaries are qualified lawyers - members of the third and oldest branch of the legal profession in the United Kingdom. They are appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and are subject to regulation by the Court of Faculties.

What do they do?
Notaries prepare and authenticate documents for use overseas. LfB offers the full range of notarial services and the most common tasks are:

  • Preparing and witnessing powers of attorney
  • Dealing with the purchase and sale of land and property situated abroad
  • Providing documents to deal with the administration of the estates of people who have died abroad, or owned property abroad
  • Authenticating personal documents and information for immigration or emigration purposes, or to apply to marry or work abroad
  • Authenticating company and business documents and transactions

Translations and Legalisation
If the document to be notarised is not in English, a translation may be required. If the notarised document is destined for a non-Commonwealth country, it is also likely to require legalisation by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and/or by the Consulate of the country of destination. LfB offers a one stop service in conjunction with the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and can handle all your translation and legalisation needs.

Appointments
Most appointments take 20 to 30 minutes. We are able to offer an out of hours service where necessary. Appointments are regularly available on 24 hours notice or less and we can see youat our Birmingham or Worcester offices.
