BIRMINGHAM LAWYER TAKES UP GRADUATE RECRUITMENT SCHEME

“The West Midlands will not build a stronger economy unless it makes boosting skills its top priority” said Regional Minister Ian Austin at the launch of additional funding for the West Midlands Graduate Internship service.

An extra 250 placements are now available and Birmingham company, Lawyers for Business which provides quality legal advice at a fraction of the cost by working virtually, has taken on two graduates under the scheme.

Solicitor, David Feenan who attended the launch is full of praise for the scheme. He said: “It has enabled me to grow the business without any additional overheads in the economic downturn. It also allows me to see how the graduates perform for up to six months so that I can make an informed decision as to whether or not to offer them employment and the opportunity to train with us further.”

Graduates, Charles Brine and James Banner both from Birmingham University have completed their law degrees but need to get work experience. Charles said: “The graduate internship scheme has been very successful in matching me with a Law firm that I have found to be beneficial in every aspect. Lawyers for Business is a growing national firm who have aimed to develop my skills not only office based but also have given me the chance to enter the courts, giving me very hands on experience. This position has not only developed my legal skills but has given me the opportunity to research and input my knowledge into the
workplace. Lawyers for Business have offered immense assistance and support and made the whole process of a placement truly rewarding.”

The new funding will bring the total number of graduate placements through the pilot scheme to 500 by March 2010.
